SAKTI SIKHA is a development organization registered under the Society Registration Act. Add on credibility it also registered under the Income Tax Act (12A, 80G), Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).

In 1996 SAKTI SIKHA was pioneered by some Social Work Graduates with a great deal of experience among themselves in practicing and researching rural development in Odisha. Over the years, SAKTI SIKHA has been able to create its presence in the development sector. The thematic focus on access to livelihood, education, preventive health practices, social enterprise have evolved as the thrust areas for impacting change in the villages of Odisha. Creativity and efficiency is considered as the benchmark of its staff members. A group of distinguished advisors, drawn from academia, rural development and senior citizens, guide the organization.

In the operational areas of SAKTI SIKHA – a majority of the rural population lives in abysmal poverty with a lack of livelihood options and do not have access to formal credit systems. What followed was the introduction of innovative efforts by SAKTI SIKHA to enhance access to livelihood. In addition to this, it also expanded its activities to facilitate build up social enterprise, access to education, health practices and eco-resource management. During its existence of more than a decade, the organization has been able to develop and promote democratized and viable village and gram panchayat-level institutions and groups, which are truly owned, controlled and managed by its members. The uniqueness of SAKTI SIKHA approach in building people’s or community organizations lies in its belief and promotion of self-reliance and democratic governance by capacity development approaches. While building people’s institutions like women self-help groups, farmers groups, village development committee, project management committee and forest protection groups, SAKTI SIKHA emphasizes participation and decision making by the members of these groups and ensures their partaking in the management of the institution. SAKTI SIKHA have a well understand that the 3 tire Panchayat Raj system is much needed to mobilize any development initiative at multilevel. Hence involvement of PRI members in all the activities of SAKTI SIKHA is always followed.

SAKTI SIKHA is guided by the core belief of infusion and diffusion of knowledge and technology for the holistic development of society. SAKTI SIKHA has been able to introduce and ensure the adoption of innovative, locally relevant, food security technologies, & sustainable agricultural technology with the help of organic & bio farming system. Simple technologies, which bring about improvements to the quality of life and livelihoods of the impoverished are nurtured and practiced by all the staff members. In-depth understanding of development and related issues precede all the interventions of the organization, and thus SAKTI SIKHA also participates in relevant studies and research that have a bearing in impacting positive outcomes in the life and livelihood of the poor. Networking and alliance building to disseminate these ideas, approaches and models are key areas of interest to SAKTI SIKHA. SAKTI SIKHA has been able to forge effective working relationships with national and international donors, government departments and research institutions.

SAKTI SIKHA is continuously working on rural development and poverty alleviation through science & technology intervention since last 14 years with excellent track record and in collaboration with local Government Departments. SAKTI SIKHA is working on the promotion of Bio-farming Technology & Environmental Sound Agriculture Technology (EST) as one of its priority activities for Food Security and Promoting Livelihood of the poorest of the poor.

As on May 2016, 76 highly motivated professionals (31 development professionals, 18 Community Agro-Vet Entrepreneur, 27 Community Workers) under SAKTI SIKHA sphere are working in the villages with the target community.
